About PTFE

Since PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) was discovered in 1938, the material has been part of a fantastic development, which is still ongoing. At the founding in 1969, Acoplastic became part of this historical writing.

PTFE’s history – from space projects to Formula 1 and modern kitchen equipment

  • 1938 – New Jersey, Dupont Jackson Lab: Dr Roy J. Plunkett discovers “Polytetrafluoroethylene”
  • 1942 – Manhattan Project (WW II)
  • 1950s / 60s – Spacecraft: – Insulation for fuel hoses, electrical insulation, space suits, insulation of containers, oxygen pump bearings etc.
  • 1960s (onwards) – Airline industry, motorsport and other heavy industries.
  • 1970s and beyond – Machine parts, valves, electrical components, pharmaceutical equipment, etc.
